A fellow resident of Salinas, Heather Hansen Schmitt, shares with us a project she did for the benefit of the foundation.

“About three years ago, I started painting rocks for fun. The more I painted, the harder things I would try to paint. People would tell me I should sell them, but instead I was giving them away. I was encouraged by a friend to sell the rocks at her business in Salinas. I said I would, but also would donate some of the proceeds to a charity. With so many places to donate to here on the peninsula, I wanted to choose one that was close to my heart.

I chose to donate to Fundacíon Triunfadora because at one point in my life I was in the same position many of the women are that need assistance to leave a domestic violence situation. For me, living in the United States at the time, I had many resources, such as a domestic abuse shelter and access to free counseling and police protection. With that assistance I was able to make a positive change in my life and the lives of my two young children.

Because of the help that I received when I was in desperate need. I wanted to give back to an organization that would do the same for so many women. I will keep painting and donating to this very worthwhile cause as long as people keep buying my rocks. My rocks are for sale at the Island Estates office in Salinas. Custom orders are available through me directly.”
