Painted Beach Rocks in Benefit of Fundacion Triunfadora

A fellow resident of Salinas, Heather Hansen Schmitt, shares with us a project she did for the benefit of the foundation.

“About three years ago, I started painting rocks for fun. The more I painted, the harder things I would try to paint. People would tell me I should sell them, but instead I was giving them away. I was encouraged by a friend to sell the rocks at her business in Salinas. I said I would, but also would donate some of the proceeds to a charity. With so many places to donate to here on the peninsula, I wanted to choose one that was close to my heart.

I chose to donate to Fundacíon Triunfadora because at one point in my life I was in the same position many of the women are that need assistance to leave a domestic violence situation. For me, living in the United States at the time, I had many resources, such as a domestic abuse shelter and access to free counseling and police protection. With that assistance I was able to make a positive change in my life and the lives of my two young children.

Because of the help that I received when I was in desperate need. I wanted to give back to an organization that would do the same for so many women. I will keep painting and donating to this very worthwhile cause as long as people keep buying my rocks. My rocks are for sale at the Island Estates office in Salinas.
